In March 2022, Al-Bir Charity team visited Chad for the third time since launching in 2016, thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors. The trip campaign raised an impressive £35,000 through contributions before and during the trip, enabling us to fund many water wells, Bilal mosque, and more.

During our visit, we celebrated the opening of five water wells and the mosque, transforming daily life for countless families by providing access to clean, safe water and a space for worship, community activites, and youth learning. The remaining water wells were opened later, extending the impact of this initiative even further. Families who had been drinking contaminated water now had access to clean, safe water, transforming their daily lives and protecting them from illness.

Each contribution—whether from an individual or a collective effort—proved how acts of kindness can spark meaningful change. On the ground, we witnessed the direct impact of your generosity: children smiling as they drank clean water, communities coming together around the wells, and renewed hope spreading among families.

We are incredibly thankful to all our donors who made these life-changing projects possible. Your contributions have transformed lives by providing access to clean water and uplifting entire communities.

Looking ahead to January 2025, we are planning our next mission to Chad. This time, we will launch the region’s first-ever orphanage, providing vulnerable children with shelter, care, and education. Additionally, we aim to open more water wells to ensure more families have access to clean, safe water. These projects represent the next step in our journey to create lasting change.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Al-Bir receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
